Dresses and Denim and Draping, Oh My!
The world of Glamour and Boudoir photography is still a bit of a mystery to most. Questions arise, like, What do I wear to a boudoir shoot? Does it have to be suggestive? Will I pose nude?
First, let me warn you - there are photographers out there that will pressure clients into wearing something they are not comfortable with, and that is a major red flag. Pass on them and keep looking for a good match.
Second, you can wear literally anything you would like to a glamour or boudoir session. Whether that is a burka or completely naked, that is up to you.
I have clients who prefer to stick to a glamour type wardrobe with dresses, jeans, and bralettes, while others like to be more sensual and wear lingerie or drape fabric.
What exactly is the difference between glamour and boudoir outfits anyway?
Glamour is usually gowns, power suits, jeans, tee shirts, etc. It can be fancy or casual or even business.
Boudoir on the other hand may involve lingerie, bra and underwear, bodysuits, just a sheet, or your birthday suit.
However, you can wear the same outfit to either a glamour or boudoir session and make it totally different just by how you pose in it.
Glamour posing is mainly focused on the person as the subject, while boudoir poses are focused a bit more on the body.
Let’s say you show up to my studio in a parka.
With glamour, I would have you move around a bit with the fan blowing your hair and the fabric of the parka flowing. With boudoir, we could do a pose on a stool where you show some leg outside the parka.
Boudoir is basically a more risqué version of glamour, and you can wear whatever the hell you want to either.
What’s important is that you feel empowered in your outfits, find a photographer who will help you feel comfortable, and give you some awesome styling advice.
Here are some creative ideas of what to wear:
Jersey and fishnets
Bodysuit and flowers
Pearls and lingerie
Heels, jeans, and a crop top
Your partner's shirt and stockings
A large, fuzzy coat and knee high boots
A renaissance dress
A flapper dress complete with a feather hat and elbow-length gloves
The options are truly endless!
In my studio, we have a gorgeous client closet to use filled with gowns, dresses, shirts, skirts, and lingerie, from xxs to 4xl.
